Prokofiev's classic work for children is a symphonic fairy tale
in which each character is represented by a different orchestral
instrument. The story is visually portrayed through Paul Mejias
charming choreography and tells the story of young Peters
ventures in catching a wolf with the help of his animal friends;
he then becomes the village hero. A favorite of both children and
adults, the performance is the perfect introduction to classical
music and dance. The performance will be narrated in both English
and Spanish.
Mr.
Mejia's choreography was first done in Chicago when he was then
artistic director of the Chicago City Ballet. He has choreographed
several versions since then, as it is tailored for the individual
dancers. Mr. Mejia is especially pleased with this version which
uses the exceptional talents of the Company dancers.
This
marks the fifth year Metropolitan Classical Ballet has has been
invited by the Children's Education Program of Performing Arts Fort
Worth to join with the Fort Worth Symphony in performing Peter
and the Wolf.
Prior
to attending the program, second grade students will read a simplified
version of Peter and the Wolf and learn to identify instruments
of the orchestra both aurally and visually. It is the perfect introduction
to both classical music and dance.
