The performances are presented by the Children's Education Program of Performing Arts Fort Worth at Bass Performance Hall. Starting January 15th, there will be two performances a day--eight in all. About 13,900 students and their teachers from around the north Texas area will enjoy the performance. Sue Buratto, Educations Directors for The Children’s Education Program of Performing Arts Fort Worth said, “It is always one of the highlights of our season and something the students look forward to!” The performances are not open to the public.

Peter and the Wolf

Sergei Prokofiev's classic work for children is a symphonic fairy tale in which each character is represented by a different orchestral instrument. The story is visually portrayed through Paul Mejia’s charming choreography and tells the story of young Peter’s ventures in catching a wolf with the help of his animal friends; he then becomes the village hero. A favorite of both children and adults, the performance is the perfect introduction to classical music and dance. The performance will be narrated in both English and Spanish.

Mr. Mejia's choreography was first done in Chicago when he was then artistic director of the Chicago City Ballet. He has choreographed several versions since then, as it is tailored for the individual dancers. Mr. Mejia is especially pleased with this version which uses the exceptional talents of the Company dancers.

This marks the fifth year Metropolitan Classical Ballet has has been invited by the Children's Education Program of Performing Arts Fort Worth to join with the Fort Worth Symphony in performing Peter and the Wolf.

Prior to attending the program, second grade students will read a simplified version of Peter and the Wolf and learn to identify instruments of the orchestra both aurally and visually. It is the perfect introduction to both classical music and dance.
